Free speech, awesome as it is, also inevitably means stupid speech. Case in point: My brother, a freshman at UW-Stout, sent me this link to a video showing the protest-counterprotest clash between 10 members of the anti-gay WBC, “some crazy Baptist church” according to my bro, and a couple hundred Stout students around 7:30 a.m. Thursday. The University told the students not to counterprotest. They obviously did anyway and anti-gay protesters left after 15 minutes.

I’m told the WBC members are also planning to make an appearance at the funeral of one of the students who died in a recent off-campus housefire because they think that if you die in a fire, you had to have done something to deserve it. (You can see this on one of the posters in the video.) Sick stuff.

On a lighter note, though, my brother also informed me that he’ll be attending the “The Great Porn Debate” between Ron Jeremy and Craig Gross, a pastor. The two will be discussing the impact of porn on society today. Awesome.

Richard Florida, author of Rise of the Creative Class, recently put out this visual aid demonstrating the “singles” populations across the United States. Guess what? The West Coast is a total sausagefest! So is Minneapolis, as Ben will attest to. Thankfully for me (but unfortunately for Taryn), Milwaukee seems to be the one girl-saturated Midwestern haven. [via]

FOX always leaves me dumbfounded. The spectrum of their “values” - from O’Reilly to The Simpsons - is totally baffling. Thankfully, their stance on strippers covered in whipped cream is clear: totally decent.

Tang Wei, star of Ang Lee’s Lust, Caution, has been declared a “non-person” by China’s state censor.

The fuss comes as a result of some sexually explicit scenes in Lee’s new film. Here’s the kicker: Lee had already cut the scenes from the version shown on the Chinese mainland, but they’ve censored her anyway.

“Censored” seems like too light a word. I mean, according to the Chinese government…she no longer exists. Scary stuff.

Gawker: Americans hate the sex they’re not actually having anyway.

I don’t think even Bush could get away with calling this a slow-down…really, it’s just sad.
