Wonkette: Twin Cities Bars will stay open to 4 AM during the Republican National Convention.

Minneapolis being my former-former place of residence, and Ben’s current one, we’re thrilled. This is particularly good news for SDIF as we have something special in the works for the RNC mayhem…

…stay tuned as more details are revealed over the next few months!!!

I bring you this week’s midweek distraction a day early, to compensate for the recent lack of Ben’s features (which will return tomorrow). It’s partially my fault. Ben came to visit me in Milwaukee this weekend and his hand-eye coordination has been severely impaired ever since…

The Anti-Drug Campaign Against Stoners That Will Obviously Only Be Appreciated By Stoners (While Stoned): Stoners in the Mist. [via] [via]

UPDATE: Friend-of-SDIF, Shea at Up the Drain, turned the site into a drinking game. A very, very dangerous drinking game.

A little bit of local fun: Mayor Tom Barrett officially declared today “Beer Day” in the city of Milwaukee.

This also doubles as the “Most Redundant Declaration” in the city’s history. You don’t have to be a resident to realize that every day is beer day here.

It’s barely after noon, but sd&if is totally ready for happy hour. Except for Ben. We’ve literally chained him to his desk until he finishes this week’s “With Us / Against Us.”

Happy weekending!

“no, i said ‘tax stamp’”
23 January 08, 1:08 pm

In order to hit the drug content quota for this blog (which is really missing the point of this blog): “A $200-a-gram Tax on Cocaine” (NY Times).

Government agencies don’t really “get” drugs, do they? So, in order to completely miss the point of the policy, I force myself to wonder: how does this trickle down to the little guy? After all, tax season is fast upon us.

I mean, would the tax be prefigured into the purchase of that 20 bag, or will we need to bring a calculator with us out behind the dumpster? Is that tax only applicable on the cocaine content of our purchase? Surely we can’t be expected to pay such a hefty tax on the part that’s lidocaine - or any tax on the part that’s baking soda. Also, would foreigners traveling and doing coke in the United States be eligible for tax relief upon return to their country of origin? We also don’t like to do business with private organizations who evade their tax responsibilities…but is there really a tactful way to ask a dealer if we can see his state-approved “tax stamp”? Best case scenario, we end up looking at a prison tattoo on his lower back and - totally confused - go our separate ways.

So many questions…
