Every Wednesday, we here at sd&if bring you a glorious little internet gem designed to stop those TPS reports just short of completion.
Take this one home tonight: Library Thing.
While Library Thing might not keep you physically distracted in the workplace, it’ll have you mentally distracted thinking about how your potentially sad little book collection will stack up when you finally get home and start cataloging. Am I right? You’re already scratching your head. Will Dave Eggers look too cliche? Will my copy of A Handmaid’s Tail be properly balanced out by my copy of The Year of Magical Thinking? Do I have too much Chuck Palahniuk and too little Don DeLillo? Will that semester I spent dreaming I’d become a music video director be totally obvious because I have a copy of Christine Vachon’s Shooting To Kill? (Answers: Yes. No. Yes. Yes.)
I once lamented the demise of the visible record collection - the hallmark of any “sweet pad.” But, who am I kidding? We all spend too much time online nowadays Facebooking, Twittering, blogging, or making videos about Obama anyway. Let’s bring the pad where we play.
Oh, and they only require a user name, password, and e-mail address to use. So you don’t have grab your ankles and supply the lube just to try it out.
Their short introduction should sufficiently excite you. Library dorks rejoice!
Now go forth, noble readers, and catalog.*
*I swear to god I never thought I’d ever say a thing like that. I’ve studied cataloging…talk about grabbing your ankles.
