To say that the terms “Big Brother” and the slightly more refined (because you sound smarter when you use it) “Orwellian” (there, we used it) have seen a resurgence over the past seven years is a bit of an understatement. While some may argue that “Kafkaesque” is a more appropriate descriptor, any number of policies - from the PATRIOT Act to torture methods - have combined under the Bush administration to help conjure up images of ol’ George Orwell on an all-too-regular basis.
So there’s all that. And then there’s this: AG Michael Mukasey has George Orwell’s portrait hanging in his office. Excuse us…
